A paper title “Electricity Through Fibre”, presented by Kunal Khosla, Shorya Maheshwari and Mit Shah, of Year III, MBA.Tech EXTC, of NMIMS Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering (Shirpur) introduced the idea of transmitting light through optical fibre and converting it into electricity.

The paper was presented at SPANDAN-2016, a National level conference on Advances in Engineering Technology and Applied Science, organised by Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering. The conference boasted of research papers by young engineers of different disciplines, from all over the country. Around 330 teams participated in the Spandan-2016.

MPSTME Team’s paper presented a novel approach to transmit light through optical fibres and produce electricity using photovoltaic convertors, subsequently replacing the present power transmission system, utilizing the efficiency, flexibility and durability of the optical fibre cable over copper cable.

The paper “Electricity Through Fibre” bagged the first position in the Electronics and Telecommunication category, in the session held on March 18, 2016. The teams were guided by Prof. Suresh Kurumbanshi, Prof. Atul Patil and Dr. Aaquil Bunglowala.
