Vadodara: From young grads to best of the minds in multi-nationals, 19 football lovers from across the country will converge in the city to play the beautiful game this Saturday.

Strange as it may seem but these lads, who have graduated from the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), will be participating in a unique alumni meet to bond over the sport they love the most.

“We at NMIMS have a large family of football lovers who follow the game passionately. NMIMS teams also participate in football tournaments and hence those interested in the sport register their names with the institute. And those who get registered immediately become a part of our family,” said Azeem Karbhari, who graduated from NMIMS last year. He has organized the match in the city with the help of another NMIMS alumni Neel Patel.

“We decided to organize football matches every few months to keep in touch with our batch-mates who share our passion for the game. Last year, we organized our first such match of alumni in Bangalore and the second match was organized in Mumbai four months ago. This Saturday, we all will meet at Manjalpur Sports Complex at 4.30 pm to play the match,” Azeem, who is an entrepreneur, told TOI.

The players’ list includes employees of Google, Kotak, McKinsey, Reliance, IBM and Capgemini who will be coming from Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore. “We will be playing 90-minute match with a break of 25 minutes. It is a great way of bonding with our batch-mates and alumnus who have graduated in other batches. It is a great way to stay in touch with our alumni,” said Nitish Mahajan, NMIMS graduate who works with Google.

“From the football jerseys and shoes to bearing costs of the venue, everything comes from our pockets. This time we have also brought in eight professional cameramen who will record the match. We are planning to organize our next match in Delhi and bring in many more players,” Azeem added.
