NMIMS’s Centre for Entrepreneurship and Family Business Management and School of Liberal Arts took a major leap forward and got a new recognition as it was chosen by US-based Dalal Family Foundation, for a generous grant.
Both constituent units received a new identity and were accordingly, named as Pravin Dalal Centre for Entrepreneurship and Family Business Management and Jyoti Dalal School of Liberal Arts after the Dalal family members during a ceremony at NMIMS.
Shri Amrishbhai Patel, President of SVKM and Chancellor of NMIMS who presided over the naming ceremony spoke about NMIMS and its immense contribution to the society.
Mr. Nayan Dalal, Chairperson of the Dalal Family Foundation, lauding NMIMS for its brilliant performance, said, “In 2016 it was looking to support an educational effort with high credentials. After rigorous scrutiny two schools at NMIMS were chosen, the School of Liberal Arts being one of them.”
While narrating the journey of the Dalal Family Foundation, he said that since its inception in 2002, the foundation has been supporting the causes of education and empowerment, especially of women, elderly and disabled populations.
Mr. Dalal elaborated on his mother late Smt. Jyoti Dalal’s contribution as a social worker, who, throughout her life worked extensively for the betterment of women and children.
Dr. Rajan Saxena, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS, thanked Mr. Nayan Dalal and Mr. Hiten Dalal for donating a generous sum towards the School of Liberal Arts and Centre for Entrepreneurship & Family Business Management. Dr. Saxena while recounting the journey of the Centre for Entrepreneurship & Family Business Management of over 18 years, mentioned how with consistent efforts it has grown from first one program of 15-20 students to multiple programs & full time MBA program having over 100 students.
Dr. Saxena lauding the efforts made by NMIMS Chancellor, Mr. Amrish Patel towards shaping the 36-year-old institution, said that after Shri Patel took over, NMIMS has come a long way. He said, “The NMIMS University is ranked by various media and several publication amongst top 50 Universities in the country, while the Government of India has ranked it among top 100 Universities of the Country.”
“We have ten schools at NMIMS and our University is fully inter-disciplinary, multi-disciplinary and fully functionary University,” he said adding further that one will see NIMIMS at the Global ranking in the years to come.
Director, Pravin Dalal Centre for Entrepreneurship & Family Business Management, Prof. Seema Mahajan, said the centre was established to assist family owned firms to be in line with professional organisations. With an Alumni base of 1500 plus entrepreneurs from a family business background, in the last 14 years the School has taken serious initiatives and has developed expertise in Family Business and Entrepreneurship Management. Prof. Mahajan further said, “The Center focuses on understanding and respecting each culture and values system existing in Indian markets and brings in transformation by becoming a part of the family thereby actually doing mentoring and handholding.”
The Center received a generous endowment from in honour of his father Shri Pravin Dalal. In recognition of the endowment extended, the Center is renamed as the ‘Pravin Dalal Centre for Entrepreneurship & Family Business Management’.
Prof. Mahajan while informing about the courses offered at the centre stated that the focus of the courses ranging from 32 weeks to 2 years full time MBA and recently launched Integrated MBA (5 years ) post 12th , remains on deeply understanding and appropriately delivering to Indian Family Businesses a strategic path to transform and grow their business while they play an important role in India’s growth.
The Centre is ranked 96th “Best Entrepreneurship Program” worldwide according to Eduniversal Rankings. Only Program mentioned in the McKinsey Report “The Power of Many” – Realizing the socio economic potential of entrepreneurs in the 21st century released at the G-20 Young Entrepreneurs Summit in Paris.
Dean, Jyoti Dalal School of Liberal Arts, Dr. Uma Narain, said, “In first three years, the school offers bouquet of several subjects, each subject helps to decode life with high definition clarity. Our courses are aligned with opportunities of internship in the area of interest of students.”
Dr Narain further mentioned about the wide range of exciting and fulfilling career choices for a liberal art student are available in various fields including civil services, corporate sector media, films and TV industry.
Dr Sharad Mhaiskar, Pro Vice Chancellor, Mr Sunandan Divatia Secretary, Mr Shalin Divatia Joint Secretary, Mr Pravin Dalal of the Dalal Family Foundation were also present among others on the occasion.
