With vigor, enthusiasm and the drive to motivate the incoming batch of students, NMIMS organizes one of the best-in-class induction programs to welcome the new batch to the B-school. A week full of fun team building activities and serious business alike, the orientation week is a trailer of the two-year movie that MBA life at NMIMS is.
This year, NMIMS held its orientation from 5th to 10th June. Holding true to its mission of being a centre of excellence, the first day was dedicated to the interaction between the board and the faculty, with 700 enthusiastic students watching their dreams come true. Words of wisdom, of unforgettable experiences, of handling stress and making it big in life were parted with and accepted graciously by students. The Chief Guest of the session was Mr. Sunil Buch, the Chief Executive Officer, ZEE LIVE & Talent at ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. Responsible for driving the LIVE Events, Theatre and Talent businesses that are beyond the mainstay of broadcasting, Sunil plays a key role in leveraging content assets across ZEEL’s ecosystem, and his words were enriching and motivating for all students.
Not only does NMIMS give academic learning the due importance it deserves, but it also facilitates the development of a wider and more useful skillset – networking, management, leadership and teamwork. NMIMS is known to compliment classroom teaching with industry interaction, and a glimpse into this teaching pedagogy was seen in the interactive sessions with industry stalwarts organized as part of the induction. Students could ask questions and increase their understanding of businesses and management education, and get their first corporate exposure within the first week of B-School itself. The speakers for the sessions were Mr. Abhijit Shah, Senior VP – Marketing, Digital Business & Customer Experience, ICICI Prudential Asset Management; Mr. Vishal Kejariwal, Founder, Taxidio; Mr. Vikram Vora, Founder, Sabka Dentist; Mr. Tushar Trivedi, Executive VP, Kotak Mahindra Bank; Mr. Ashish Arora, Founder and MD, HR Anexi Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Priyank Shah, Founder, Glass Apple.
At NMIMS, there’s no Jack who has all work and no play! Known for all the national level business and cultural competitions it has won in the past, the college began passing on the baton of these values to the students in the next 2-3 days, through engaging financial simulation games and movie screening sessions. The simulation games, alongside imparting knowledge about new product development, equity investment and resource allocation, also cultivated the spirit to win as a team.
The following day saw the Outbound Training, where students were taken to a serene location about 70 kms away from the city to experience true team spirit, facing many a challenge together. What came out of it was a crowd, now very well bonded, laughing aloud and making memories they would cherish years later. It set the tone for the rest of the year by emphasizing on the importance of teamwork and perseverance, and at the same time provided a platform for breaking the ice. The students got to witness the great diversity the NMIMS boasts of, with students from across the country and with varying educational and professional backgrounds interacting through different activities.
Day 5 of the week was Mumbai Darshan, the cultural immersion program. The Mumbai Darshan was truly an ice -breaker with activities and challenges matching the fast-paced life of Mumbai. This was especially helpful for the students who have come from various parts of the country, ready to make the city that never sleeps, their home for the next two years. They got a glimpse of all that Mumbai boasts of, it’s heritage, it’s food and most importantly it’s people!
The week ended with the examinations on the Harvard Business School modules that were provided to each student to strengthen their concepts in Quantitative Methods, Spreadsheet Modeling, Financial Accounting and Mathematics for Management. School of Business Management, NMIMS, is one of the few institutions that provide their students with such modules. The modules simplified subject matter expertise in the area for better understanding and were available to students few weeks prior to the beginning of the course. They were conducted with the intention of preparing students with MBA curriculum and supplementing classroom teaching, and were very well received.
In all, the orientation week of NMIMS, Mumbai was one to remember, giving a glimpse of what the next two years had in store – a whirlwind of enriching activity which would be hectic and rewarding at the same time.
