Ajit Gupte urges alumni to extend support to NMIMS

NMIMS alumni may have risen high in career and grown matured with experience, but they still cherish the strong and vibrant bond which they had developed over the years with their alma mater.

NMIMS, one of the foremost management institutes in the country, hosted its annual Grand Alumni Meet at Mumbai on the evening of 24th November 2018. The event marked the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the batches of 1995 (FTMBA) and 1993 (PTMBA). As they completed twenty five years of passing out from the institute, the Alumni Association of School of Business Management felicitated them with a trophy.

Friendly talks resounded across the hall, where the ex-students along with current students and faculty members of NMIMS got together for the Alumni meet.

They did not take much time to recognise each other – their days in college flashed brilliantly in their conversation and the golden days were remembered with moist eyes.

While commemorating the silver jubilee celebrations on the campus, these alums experienced some bright defining moments. All of them together shared some golden memories worth cherishing for life long.

NMIMS alumni, Mr Amit Wagh who is currently serving as Vice-President, Cognizant said, “There was so much to imbibe from many of our Professors. The training which I received at NMIMS enabled me to develop perspectives and broaden them, these aspects have stayed with me and are immensely helpful in today’s rapidly changing world.”

A visibly elated Mr Wagh specially thanked Alumni Cell for organising the celebration, where they could meet, “as coming together at the Institute and experiencing the environment after 25 years was special,” added Mr Wagh.

Chairman of the Alumni Association, Mr Ajit Gupte welcome the guests at the event, he updated the audience on NMIMS alumni, who have achieved success at the national and international level and occupy senior and important positions in organisations of repute. During a presentation made by Mr Gupte, he briefed on the Chapter Meets organised by NMIMS Business School Alumni Association across various cities and towns in India, and in various parts of the world as well.

Mr Gupte explained how the Alumni Association plays a vital role on campus and help the students in various ways. He cited an example where the alumni association has helped a student coming from poor family to pay his fees, and now has joined as AVP at HSBC. NMIMS Business School Alumni Association has raised Rs 8 lakhs for beautification of Vile Parle railway station.

Dr. Rajan Saxena Vice Chancellor, NMIMS and Dr Ramesh Bhat, Provost, Management Education and Dean, School of Business Management, NMIMS also spoke on the occasion.

Mr Yogi Sriram, a Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) alumni, who is currently the Senior Vice President Corporate Human Resources and member of the Executive Committee of Larsen & Toubro Limited was the Chief Guest for the event.

While addressing the audience, Mr Yogi spoke on how the competencies which helped achieve success, may not necessarily help in future. You cannot coast along on past achievements “What is important in today’s world is to stay relevant, it is important to understand context, what the customer wants, the time horizon about the relevance and therefore stay relevant, making yourself marketable,” he said.

Mr Yogi also stressed on the importance of testing competence rather than intelligence. Organisations are looking for right kind of motivation, the curiosity, insight and the ability to engage.

The three pillars of Alumni Association, Mr Rajesh Bhojani, Dr Hufrish Majra and Mr Dharmendra Sharma were presented with a token of appreciation. Manish Ashar Memorial Award presented to Mr. Aman Dua by Dr. Ramesh Bhat which included a cash prize of INR 11,000.

The event also witnessed the launch of Déjà vu, the annual alumni magazine and Dr. Rajan Saxena facilitated former faculty Prof Mirchandani.

The Guest of Honour for the event were Mr Shailesh Chaturvedi, MD and CEO – Tommy Hilfiger Apparels India, Mr. Aashish Sommaiyaa Managing Director & CEO – Motilal Oswal, Ms Deena Mehta, MD Asit C Mehta Investment Intermediates Ltd and on behalf of Mr Vijay Chandok Executive Director – ICICI Bank , Mr Murali Ramakrishnan, Senior General Manager of ICICI Bank.

NMIMS Alumni Meet–2018 definitely proved to be a brilliant opportunity for the alumni to come together, interact with fellow batchmates, network, and get updated about the Alma Mater.

Mr Wagh, expressed how wonderful he felt while walking around the Institute, looking at the progress and the transformation that has shaped NMIMS,

“I felt nostalgic on one hand, while on the other, it was heartening to observe the positive change. Our batchmate Sachin Mathur, who is a Professor at NMIMS, was kind enough to walk us around the Institute.”

A picture of an outing organised during the institute days was displayed on the screen. Mr Wagh took the opportunity to thank Prof Mirchandani for making that occasion most memorable and the best among those spent at the institute.

The felicitation ceremony was organised at the Mukesh Patel Auditorium, NMIMS New Building followed by the Grand Alumni Meet, a gala evening of dinner at Fun Republic Social.
