Promising to make research the focus of the collaboration, NMIMS and University of California Riverside (UCR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 26th February 2019 in Mumbai. The purpose behind the collaboration is to encourage the students of NMIMS – Anil Surendra Modi School of Commerce (NMIMS-ASMSOC) and NMIMS – Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics (NMIMS-SAMSOE) to pursue post graduate degrees in Professional Accountancy (STEM certified), Finance (STEM certified), and an MBA from the UCR School of Business.

Students who are pursuing their master degree will be considered eligible for UCR School of Business scholarships and can avail benefits such as tuition waiver (partial or full) and additional stipend.

Stressing upon the need for strengthening research in both the countries, Dr. Rajan Saxena, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS, said that India being an emerging market has its own set of challenges, and each of these challenges is worth researching upon. “I am confident that this relationship that we are establishing today will be a great boost for research in the field of economics and accounting”, he added.

Reminiscing his journey after graduating from Mithibhai College in 1979 to becoming the trustee of UCR Foundation Board, Mr. Hemant Kurani, said that he is excited about the collaboration as it holds a huge potential for both the universities. He promised to make the MoU, a living and breathing document by taking actionable steps.

Ms. Tamara Johnson, the Associate Director of International Relations, UCR added, “We are extremely happy about the collaboration. This MoU is very significant for us as it is the first-of-its-kind MoU granted to an Indian University by UCR”.

With the MoU signed, NMIMS and the UCR have set a fertile ground for research in STEM field. The collaboration will help both the universities to leverage upon their research strengths and eventually offer actionable solutions to the society in future.
