CIBER Faculty Development International Business India 2025 hosted by NMIMS: Discussing the challenges and opportunities in the Indian pharmaceutical and healthcare industry.

Mumbai, 6th January 2025: SVKM’s NMIMS School of Business Management Mumbai and the NMIMS Department of International Linkages” hosted CIBER FDIB India 2025 on 6th January 2025, which featured many distinguished speakers and industry leaders to discuss the prospects, challenges, and opportunities in the Indian pharmaceutical industry and the Indian healthcare industry.

An international delegation from acclaimed universities across the United States of America graced the CIBER FDIB India 2025 programme to share their perspectives and insights on the pharmaceutical and healthcare business environment in India. The delegation was led by Dr. Sumit Kundu, the James K. Batten Eminent Scholar Chair in International Business, Associate Dean for CIBER and International Affairs, Director of CIBER, and Professor in the Department of International Business at Florida International University, and included eminent academics and faculty members from esteemed universities namely Sung K. Ahn from Washington State University; Louis Ngamassi from Prairie View A&M University; Milagros Sanoja from Miami Dade College; Kevin J. Jones from Indiana University; Andrea Foster from Montgomery College; Akash Dania from Delaware State University; Tory Kinson from The University of Tennessee; Jonathon Wood from Brigham Young University; Marki Jones from the University of South Carolina; Monica Kinson, an expert in the field of accounting; Emil Milevoj from California State University; Jillian Avendano, CIBER Program Director and Jacob Searcy from Santa Fe College.

The programme featured insightful and engaging discussions regarding the business environment in India. It started with the welcome remarks and opening address by Dr Ramesh Bhat, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS who talked about the history of NMIMS and touched upon the various programmes that were introduced across the campuses.

The programme included a thought-provoking discussion led by Mr Yugal Sikri, Managing Director, RPG Lifesciences regarding the theme “Indian Pharmaceutical Industry: Challenges and Prospects”. He provided valuable insights into the growing challenges in the Indian healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors as well as the prospects for growth, innovation and technological advancements in these sectors.

The focus of the programme shifted to the theme “Indian Healthcare Industry: Challenges and Prospects.” This session was led by Mr Bimal Desai, Country Head and Director at SheepMedical, who is an expert in forging successful strategic alliances, joint ventures, strategic business expansion and has successfully built start-ups

In his address, Mr Bimal Desai highlighted the rapid advancements in healthcare technologies while discussing the potential for growth. He remarked, “India is now becoming a start-up hub. Just in healthcare, you have more than seven thousand start-ups. When you look at an inherent need for this product, you have a captive consumer base in the country itself, if rightly priced.”

The CIBER PDIF programme also featured a panel discussion on the Financial Services Industry, with panellists being drawn from NMIMS’s illustrious alumni network.The Panel Discussion was moderated by Dr. Veena Vohra- Professor and Vice Dean (Accreditation, Ranking, Industry and Alumni) and participants included Vice President of Equity Research at Edelweiss Financial; Francis Rodrigues, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience at Kotak Mahindra Bank, as well as Jivan Dhakate, Vice President at Axis Bank.

The CIBER FDIB India 2025 programme concluded with an inspiring presentation by Dr Meena Galliara from the Jasani Center for Social Entrepreneurship & Sustainability Management, highlighting SBM and NMIMS’s significant social impact across the nation and their commitment to civic engagement.
