Climate Risk & Sustainable Finance Conference at SVKM’s NMIMS Highlights Pathways for Responsible Growth

As climate risks intensify globally, financial institutions play a critical role in enabling a resilient and sustainable future. On 6 March 2026, the School of Business Management (SBM), NMIMS hosted the conference “Climate Risk and Sustainable Finance: Pathways to Resilient and Responsible Growth.”

The conference brought together ESG leaders from public and private sector banks, policymakers, researchers and academicians to discuss how finance can accelerate sustainable development and support India’s low-carbon transition.

Keynote Insights on India’s Climate Commitments

Delivering the keynote address, Anjalee Tarapore highlighted two of India’s key national commitments: becoming a developed nation by 2047 and achieving Net Zero by 2070. She emphasised the need to strengthen India’s financial ecosystem by deepening bond markets, strengthening institutional capital and foreign investments, and establishing a National Green Finance Institution to support emerging technologies and attract private capital.

Deepak Kumar, Head of ESG Cell at Union Bank of India, discussed global regulatory developments, the evolution of ESG practices in India and the banking sector’s response to climate risks. He also highlighted opportunities for corporates including renewable project financing, long-tenor secured loans and Sustainability Linked Loans linked to ESG performance metrics.

Panel Discussions and Research Exchange

The conference also featured expert panel discussions on ESG integration, climate risk management and sustainable finance instruments. Faculty from institutions across India presented research papers, contributing to discussions on emerging trends and policy implications in sustainable finance.

Student Participation and Sustainability Dialogue

Students actively participated through poster presentations and documentary films exploring sustainability challenges and climate risk awareness, reflecting the growing interest among young professionals in climate action and responsible finance.

Through initiatives like these, SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies continues to promote policy dialogue, research-driven learning and the development of responsible leaders shaping the future of sustainable finance.
