SVKM’s NMIMS Kirit P. Mehta School of Law Hosts Intervarsity Debate Competition 2026

SVKM’s NMIMS Kirit P. Mehta School of Law (KPMSOL) successfully hosted its Intervarsity Debate Competition from 6th to 8th March 2026 at its Mumbai campus. Organised by the Debating Society (DebSoc) in collaboration with the School of Branding and Advertising (SOBA), the three-day event brought together around 100 students from various colleges across the country.

A Platform for Intellectual Exchange and Skill Building

The competition aimed to foster critical thinking, structured argumentation, and public speaking skills among students. It provided a dynamic platform for participants to engage in meaningful intellectual discourse while exchanging diverse perspectives on contemporary issues.

Adopting a Globally Recognized Debate Format

The event followed the British Parliamentary (BP) debate format, encouraging participants to think on their feet and present well-structured arguments. The competition commenced on 6th March with the opening round, setting the stage for an engaging series of debates.

Intensive Rounds and High-Quality Deliberations

The second day witnessed four intensive rounds, where participants debated on a range of thought-provoking topics. The rounds were evaluated by experienced adjudicators who assessed participants on content, clarity, structure, and delivery. The competitive spirit and quality of discussions reflected the participants’ strong analytical and communication skills.

Grand Finale Showcases Top Talent

The final day featured the Novice Finals, Semi-Finals, and Grand Finals, where the top teams showcased exceptional debating prowess. The event concluded with a closing ceremony, where winners and outstanding participants were felicitated for their performance and contribution to the competition.

Faculty Guidance and Seamless Execution

The competition was conducted under the guidance of faculty convenors Ms. Sukriti Srivastava and Dr. Karan Sharma, whose support ensured the smooth execution of the event.

Strengthening a Culture of Debate and Critical Thinking

The Intervarsity Debate Competition 2026 concluded on a high note, reinforcing NMIMS’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped with critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills. The event also strengthened inter-college engagement and contributed to building a vibrant debating culture within the student community.
