Chandigarh: The School of Law, SVKM’s NMIMS Chandigarh Campus, organised an institutional visit to the Institute of Correctional Administration (ICA), Sector 26, Chandigarh, on 13 October 2026 for seventh- and ninth-semester students specialising in Criminal Law.

Led under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Nandan Sharma, Associate Dean, School of Law, the visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical legal frameworks and the practical aspects of correctional administration. It provided students with an opportunity to gain insights into the functioning of correctional institutions and contemporary approaches to criminal justice.

During the visit, students attended an expert session by Dr. Upneet Lalli, Director, ICA. The session covered contemporary penal philosophies, institutional governance, prisoners’ rights and rehabilitative justice frameworks in India. These discussions helped students explore the legal and administrative dimensions of correctional systems.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer round, enabling students to engage with key challenges in prison administration, recidivism management and systemic legal reforms. The interaction encouraged critical thinking and offered valuable perspectives on the practical considerations involved in the administration of criminal justice.

NMIMS Chandigarh expressed its sincere gratitude to Dr. Upneet Lalli and the ICA team for facilitating the academic visit. Special appreciation was extended to Prof. Dr. Jyotsna S., Director, NMIMS Chandigarh, for her encouragement and commitment to promoting experiential learning and strengthening the practical understanding of future legal professionals.

Through initiatives such as this institutional visit, the School of Law, NMIMS Chandigarh, continues to emphasise experiential learning and the integration of academic knowledge with practical exposure, preparing students to better understand the evolving landscape of criminal law and justice administration.
