The School of Business Management, NMIMS, Mumbai, hosted Dr. Jatin Kothari, renowned nephrologist, author and mentor, for an insightful interaction with students of the MBA Healthcare Management programme. Titled “Stories of Medicine, Resilience and the Long Game,” the session explored the human dimensions of healthcare, highlighting the importance of compassion, perseverance and purpose in building meaningful careers.

Drawing from his professional journey and memoir, Kidney, Spine & Cricket, Dr. Kothari shared perspectives on navigating uncertainty, adapting to challenges and sustaining resilience in the healthcare profession. His experiences offered students valuable insights into the realities of healthcare leadership and the importance of balancing professional expertise with empathy and patient-centred care.

The interaction highlighted several key principles for aspiring healthcare leaders, including leading with empathy, remaining adaptable in challenging circumstances, prioritising patients and pursuing careers driven by purpose. It also emphasised the importance of connecting academic knowledge with practical experience to prepare for the evolving demands of the healthcare sector.

The session encouraged students to look beyond clinical and managerial expertise and recognise the role of compassion, resilience and responsible leadership in shaping healthcare outcomes. By bringing real-world experiences into the classroom, the interaction offered a broader perspective on the challenges and responsibilities associated with healthcare management.

The session was organised by Holistika, the Healthcare Club associated with the MBA Healthcare Management programme at NMIMS, as part of its efforts to connect students with industry practitioners and enrich their learning beyond the classroom.
