A distinguished management scholar, academic leader, and institution builder, Prof. Ray brings more than three and a half decades of experience spanning higher education, strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, and corporate governance.

Prior to joining NMIMS, Prof. Ray held the positions of Thomas Schmidheiny Chaired Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship Practice and Executive Director of the Thomas Schmidheiny Centre for Family Enterprise at the Indian School of Business (ISB). Earlier, he held several academic and leadership positions at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta), including Professor of Strategic Management, Dean, and Member of the Board of Governors. He also led the Innovation Lab at Infosys Technologies as General Manager and has advised entrepreneurs, business leaders, multinational corporations, and public institutions on strategy, governance, innovation, and digital transformation.

An internationally recognised scholar, his work spans strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and family enterprise. He has authored nearly 200 research papers, articles, books, and case studies and has played pivotal institution-building roles at IIM Indore, IIM Calcutta, and ISB. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, and the Indian Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur.

His appointment comes at a significant moment in NMIMS’ growth journey as the University seeks to deepen its focus on academic excellence, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and global engagement. He brings a bold vision of AI-enabled, innovation-driven, and globally relevant higher education to NMIMS. Under his leadership, NMIMS aims to further advance interdisciplinary learning, industry partnerships, global collaborations, and future-ready education in an increasingly AI-driven world.

The evening began with vibrant energy as attendees eagerly queued outside the auditorium. Once inside, Ridhina welcomed the audience and introduced the theme of the event, “I Think, Therefore I Am.” The first session began with counselling psychologist Spreeha Bezbaruah, who infused a refreshing, interactive element into the event. Her engaging activity on the power of mental rehearsal not only captivated the audience but also provided practical tools to enhance mindset and well-being. The discourse then shifted to the intricacies of economics with Dr Surajit Mazumdar, who delivered a thought-provoking talk on the art of critical thinking in relation to our planet and our interactions with fellow beings. Adding an entrepreneurial perspective, Jhalak Shah, the visionary founder of Diam Beauty, shared invaluable lessons from her journey. Her story of resilience and innovation inspired the audience, showcasing her ability to navigate challenges and redefine norms within India’s beauty industry.

A thoughtfully planned break, featuring high tea and snacks, offered attendees an opportunity to exchange ideas and spark lively discussions among like-minded individuals. Post-break, Bollywood actor Avinash Tiwary captivated the audience with his heartfelt reflections on the power of choices and the relentless pursuit of passion. His authenticity and insights resonated deeply with attendees. Following him, acclaimed filmmaker Kabir Khan delivered a compelling talk, sharing stories from his documentary background and the narratives that shape society. His storytelling expertise added depth and nuance to the event.

Each speaker contributed a unique thread to the vibrant fabric of TEDxNMIMS 2025, creating an unforgettable experience that left the audience inspired, informed, and energized. An international delegation from acclaimed universities across the United States of America graced the CIBER FDIB India 2025 programme to share their perspectives and insights on the pharmaceutical and healthcare business environment in India. The delegation was led by Dr. Sumit Kundu, the James K. Batten Eminent Scholar Chair in International Business, Associate Dean for CIBER and International Affairs, Director of CIBER, and Professor in the Department of International Business at Florida International University, and included eminent academics and faculty members from esteemed universities namely Sung K. Ahn from Washington State University; Louis Ngamassi from Prairie View A&M University; Milagros Sanoja from Miami Dade College; Kevin J. Jones from Indiana University; Andrea Foster from Montgomery College; Akash Dania from Delaware State University; Tory Kinson from The University of Tennessee; Jonathon Wood from Brigham Young University; Marki Jones from the University of South Carolina; Monica Kinson, an expert in the field of accounting; Emil Milevoj from California State University; Jillian Avendano, CIBER Program Director and Jacob Searcy from Santa Fe College.

The programme featured insightful and engaging discussions regarding the business environment in India. It started with the welcome remarks and opening address by Dr Ramesh Bhat, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS who talked about the history of NMIMS and touched upon the various programmes that were introduced across the campuses.

The programme included a thought-provoking discussion led by Mr Yugal Sikri, Managing Director, RPG Lifesciences regarding the theme “Indian Pharmaceutical Industry: Challenges and Prospects”. He provided valuable insights into the growing challenges in the Indian healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors as well as the prospects for growth, innovation and technological advancements in these sectors.

The focus of the programme shifted to the theme “Indian Healthcare Industry: Challenges and Prospects.” This session was led by Mr Bimal Desai, Country Head and Director at SheepMedical, who is an expert in forging successful strategic alliances, joint ventures, strategic business expansion and has successfully built start-ups

In his address, Mr Bimal Desai highlighted the rapid advancements in healthcare technologies while discussing the potential for growth. He remarked, “India is now becoming a start-up hub. Just in healthcare, you have more than seven thousand start-ups. When you look at an inherent need for this product, you have a captive consumer base in the country itself, if rightly priced.”

The CIBER PDIF programme also featured a panel discussion on the Financial Services Industry, with panellists being drawn from NMIMS’s illustrious alumni network.The Panel Discussion was moderated by Dr. Veena Vohra- Professor and Vice Dean (Accreditation, Ranking, Industry and Alumni) and participants included Vice President of Equity Research at Edelweiss Financial; Francis Rodrigues, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience at Kotak Mahindra Bank, as well as Jivan Dhakate, Vice President at Axis Bank.

The CIBER FDIB India 2025 programme concluded with an inspiring presentation by Dr Meena Galliara from the Jasani Center for Social Entrepreneurship & Sustainability Management, highlighting SBM and NMIMS’s significant social impact across the nation and their commitment to civic engagement.

The event brought together students, and esteemed guests who gained valuable insights from Navya Nanda’s experiences. Navya Nanda, as Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan’s grand-daughter, has charted her own path and become an inspiration to many. Navya is known for her active presence on social media, where she shares aspects of her personal life and promotes her business ventures.

Navya Nanda has always been vocal about women empowerment. She inspired the students to become agents of change and encouraged them to pursue their passions fearlessly. “To be a part of the Stand up & You Grow Girl initiative at NMIMS Bangalore is encouraging, as I witness the student’s determination in addressing the challenges faced by our society and working towards a more inclusive and empowered future,” she said. “I feel an alignment of my vision with that of their organisation. I appreciate their amazing team. I think our mission and vision are very aligned. I really wanted to travel, go to different cities and talk to students , so at least for me that’s how it came about.”  She further added.

In partnership with L’Oreal Paris initiative, Yuvaa conducted a survey which showed that 80% of women have experienced sexual harassment, a cause not only global but also for India. There is a conclusion of the 5D methodology  – The first thing one should do in case of harassment,  is- Distract if  witnessing someone being threatened. Delegate and ask if someone can come forward when someone is being threatened, then Document in video while being careful for social media. Delay the person, a sign of clear sympathy, and Direct – ask the harasser to stop or step in while being careful not to get into an argument.

Expressing her gratitude towards the initiative, Dr. Narayani Ramachandran, Deputy Director, NMIMS Bangalore, said, “The Stand Up & You Grow Girl initiative has been an incredible opportunity for our students to expand their horizons and explore important topics that impact our society. We believe that initiatives like these contribute towards creating a more inclusive and empowered generation.”

The initiative spans 25 colleges across 7 major cities in India. It aims to understand the issues faced by the youth and create effective solutions by actively listening to and engaging with them.
