NMIMS signed an MOU with Bristol University on 30th August 2019 at their Mumbai campus for an inter-disciplinary collaboration, starting with the Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics and Anil Surendra Modi School of Commerce. While NMIMS boasts of several tie-ups with numerous prestigious universities and institutes across the world, the recent one adds another feather to its coveted cap!

This momentous event began with the Pro-Vice Chancellor, NMIMS – Dr. Sharad Mhaiskar, welcoming the distinguished guests from Bristol University—Dr. Hugh Brady (Vice Chancellor & President), Dr. Erik Lithander (Pro-Vice Chancellor—Global Engagement) and Doris Bechstein (International Market Development Manager). Dr. Mhaiskar said it is the opportune moment for both the countries to come together. He talked about India and UK’s shared history and further added that the collaboration would be across schools and assured that the MOU would take the alliance to the next level.
The Vice Chancellor of NMIMS, Dr. Rajan Saxena, emphasised the synergies and commonality of interests between the two Universities. He further contended that the MOU was more than mere signing of documents but was a precursor to a long lasting and deep relationship. He hoped that it would lead to a healthy exchange of expertise between the Universities. “It is an interesting time for both the countries, where new history is being made. At this point of time, university to university contact can go a long way in determining the reality of the two nations,” he added.
Dr. Saxena talked about the need for enhanced research in the field of public health and the diseases that have become rather widespread in India, like diabetes. He further suggested that there was plenty of scope for both NMIMS and Bristol University to work together in these areas. “Since we already have a pharma school, there is ample opportunity to work together positively on drug development—the need of the hour,” he reiterated.
He handed over the floor to Dr. Hugh Brady by saying that he was proud of the relationship the Universities shared.
Dr. Hugh Brady congratulated NMIMS for all its achievements in its rather short journey. He also added that he was delighted that their initial discussions were formalised so quickly. “I am excited that things are moving fast. We are keen to develop a sustainable and multipronged relationship, covering undergraduate, postgraduate and research levels in the fields of management, economics and public health,” he averred. Dr. Brady shared Dr. Saxena’s views on public health and expressed his willingness to work together on the same. Dr Brady went on to say that he would be happy to help NMIMS build a new program in healthcare and in building a medical curriculum. “It requires an academically like minded strategy,” he concluded.
Apart from the VC and the Pro-VC, NMIMS was represented by Prof. Amita Vaidya, Director, Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics; Ms. Meena Saxena, Director International Linkages; Dr. George Jose, Associate Dean, Jyoti Dalal School of Liberal Arts and Mr. Manish Dalmia, Director Marketing.
