Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra — August 5, 2023 — SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Navi Mumbai Campus, proudly hosted the prestigious ‘Convocation 2023’ ceremony on the 5th of August, 2023. The event marked a momentous occasion as it celebrated the academic achievements of graduates from various disciplines and schools.
The event unfolded with a solemn invocation, setting a tone of reverence and celebration. The campus of Navi Mumbai saw the convergence of distinguished guests, faculty, proud parents, and enthusiastic graduates. The ceremony was dignified by the attendance of Chief Guest, Shri Neeraj Sharma, Managing Director, Strategy & Consulting, CMT – Growth Markets, Accenture along with Shri Bharat Sanghvi, Trustee SVKM and Mentor NMIMS Navi Mumbai Campus, Dr. Sharad Mhaiskar, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ashish Daptardar, Additional Registrar SVKM’s NMIMS, Dr. Ruchita Verma, In charge Director of NMIMS Navi Mumbai Campus and Dr. P. Manikandan, Associate Dean, SOHM graced the occasion with their esteemed presence. These esteemed personalities added an air of significance to the event. Graduates from six esteemed schools namely the School of Commerce, School of Technology Management & Engineering, School of Mathematics, Applied Statistics & Analytics, School of Economics, School of Law, and the School of Hospitality Management were felicitated for their dedication and hard work.
The proceedings of the day included the presentation of school-wise reports for the academic year 2022-23, followed by the conferment of degrees upon deserving graduates. The moment of pride arrived with the declaration of awards, scholarships, and the recognition of outstanding achievers and contributors.
Sharing some insights, Dr. Sharad Mhaiskar, Pro-Vice Chancellor, said, “As you enter the professional world, you must recognize that this is also a time for introspection. As these are challenging times, disruption is the order of the day. In management jargon, we call it the VUCA world, where technology is rapidly disrupting businesses, new businesses are emerging while established ones are collapsing in a matter of time. In such times, new paradigms of leadership are emerging, but we need to focus on one important thing which is the lack of ethics and morality in functioning and to be conscious of such unwarranted behaviour.”
Reflecting on the academic reports of the schools, Dr. Ruchita Verma, In-charge Director of NMIMS Navi Mumbai Campus, said, “The graduating batch of the School of Commerce embarked on their journey with online induction programs that covered investment avenues, fintech companies, opportunities in fintech, and many more. The School of Law, the first graduating batch achieved several significant milestones in terms of academic rigour, persistence, and patience and prominent law professionals were invited to interact with them. The School of Economics took the initiative to establish the first-ever economic club of NMIMS Mumbai, named ‘Econ-o-shashtra’. Allow me to present the journey of the School of Mathematics, Applied Statistics, and Analytics, who participated in Analytic Cell webinars by industry specialists and organisations.”
The highlight of the ceremony was the distinguished Chief Guest’s convocation address. Shri Neeraj Sharma, MD, Strategy & Consulting, CMT – Growth Markets, shared expertise
drawn from his extensive experience in his own personal journey, inspiring the graduates as they embarked on their professional journeys. His words of wisdom resonated deeply with the eager minds in attendance.
He said, “I believe most of you will start working in cooperative organisations where you will interact with people from various institutions. The work that you do there will matter more than your degrees. So, try to figure out what matters most in whatever you do, instead of what gets talked about the most. What you have now on your scorecards will have relevance in the short term so don’t let this define you. You might need a new set of skills on your courageous journey. From my own personal journey, I want to advise you to be true, be bold, explore, and make a name for yourself. This way, you can build a career and a life that is filled with stories that are worth telling.”
The ‘Convocation 2023’ ceremony was not only a celebration of academic accomplishments but also a testament to the institute’s commitment to nurturing exceptional talent across various disciplines. It provided a platform to honour the dedication and perseverance of the graduates and to acknowledge their potential to shape the future.
