STME, NMIMS Chandigarh conducted an IoT Workshop – Empowers Budding Innovators

Chandigarh, India, February 21, 2024 – MATRIX, the Technical Club of the School of Technology Management and Engineering (STME) at NMIMS Chandigarh, successfully conducted a transformative workshop on the Internet of Things (IoT) on February 10, 2024. This event served as a platform for participants to delve into the intricacies of IoT technology, exploring its theories and applications in today’s dynamic world.

The workshop commenced with a warm welcome and introductory remarks by Dr. Jaskiran Kaur, Director of NMIMS Chandigarh, and Dr. Jyotsna Singh, Associate Dean of STME. Matirx Technical Club is led by the faculty coordinators Dr. Jagpreet and Dr. Aditya and Students coordinators, Ms, Bhavya and Mr. Manjot. Dr. Harpreet Singh was one of the expert of this workshop. He is a distinguished Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Tel-Aviv University, Israel, and Assistant Professor at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala. The event initiated with a comprehensive overview of IoT essentials and theoretical concepts. Dr. Singh’s expertise in data analytics and machine learning for IOT devices, as the founder of Thinkwave Technologies, offered invaluable insights into the realm of IoT.

Concurrently, Mr. Gaurav Kumar, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) at Thinkwave Technologies, led a hands-on session featuring practical demonstrations using ESP 8266/32 KIT and Arduino boards. Mr. Kumar, a MEITY-funded founder of Thinkwave Technologies, displayed his expertise in IoT, Robotics, and Cloud Applications through projects such as ‘Development of an Intelligent Blood Extraction Device’ and the IoT app ‘ESP 8266/32 KIT’ on the Play Store.

The highlight of the workshop was the presentation of various IoT projects, demonstrating real-world applications of patentable concepts and the potential of IoT technology through the Design-A-Patent Challenge. Interactive discussions and feedback sessions enabled participants to engage directly with the speakers, enhancing the understanding of their ideas and addressing queries.

The event concluded with the prize distribution of the Design-A-Patent Challenge conducted by MATRIX last month in collaboration with the patent office of STME, NMIMS Chandigarh. The winning team, comprising of Bhavya Jha, Swastika Kaushal, and Garima Kalra, earned recognition for their innovative “Sign Language Translator Tool.” Two runner-up teams, Nikita Dhawan, Ginim Narang, and Divyanshi Bhagi presenting a “Solar Powered Phone Charger,” and Raghav Yogi, Ryan Kukreti, Shaurya Sharma, and Pankaj Kumar showcasing a “Universal Remote Control for People with Disabilities,” received acknowledgment for their practical solutions. Certificates were distributed to all participants, recognizing their active engagement and commitment to learning. The Design-A-Patent Challenge, aimed at fostering creativity and innovation among STME students, witnessed impressive submissions and highlighted their inventive potential.

With this IoT workshop, STME, NMIMS Chandigarh aimed to create a culture of collaborative spirit and innovation and to uphold the institution’s commitment to nurturing talent and encouraging creativity in technology and engineering.
