Vice-President of India Addresses NMIMS Students and Faculty members

Higher Education’s Role in Shaping Viksit Bharat 2047.

Mumbai, 12th July 2024: The prestigious NMIMS University hosted a momentous event where Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Hon’ble Vice-President of India graced his presence at the campus to enlighten students and faculty members with his valuable insights on “Empowering India: The Role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Making Viksit Bharat 2047”. The event was held on 12th July at the Mukesh Patel Auditorium in NMIMS Mumbai campus. Shri Ramesh Bais, The Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Prafulbhai Patel Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Shri Amrishbhai Patel, Hon’ble President SVKM and Chancellor SVKM’s NMIMS, Dr Ramesh Bhat, The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of NMIMS University and Dr Sharad Mhaiskar, Pro Vice Chancellor, NMIMS also graced the occasion with their presence.

The Hon’ble Vice-President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, delivered an inspiring keynote speech on “Empowering India: The Role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Making Viksit Bharat 2047” and emphasized the crucial role of higher education in shaping the future of the nation.  He stated, “It is my great pleasure to address the esteemed faculty and students of NMIMS University on the transformative role of higher education in shaping Viksit Bharat by 2047. As we commemorate the centenary of our independence, the vision of a developed India beckons us with profound responsibility and promise. Higher education institutions are the bedrock upon which this vision will be realized, nurturing not just knowledge but also innovation, entrepreneurship, and societal values. Interdisciplinary approaches, industry collaborations, and a focus on research and development should be at the heart of your teaching methodologies. He urged educators to foster a curriculum that equips students with the skills and mindset to tackle contemporary challenges with creativity and conviction”.

Shri Dhankhar highlighted key areas where higher education institutions can make significant contributions to Viksit Bharat. Outlining the key areas, he said that Technology and Digital Transformation, Sustainable Development, Healthcare and Life Sciences, Agriculture and Food Security, Social Sciences and Humanities, Skill Development and Vocational Training and Entrepreneurship and Innovation can fast track our journey towards Viksit Bharat.

Moreover, he said, “As we stride towards 2047, it is imperative that we preserve and promote our rich cultural heritage while embracing global best practices. You have the responsibility of instilling in our youth a sense of pride in our civilizational ethos, even as you prepare them to be global citizens”.

Dr Ramesh Bhat, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of NMIMS University said, “Today is a special day for us as we host distinguished leaders whose dedication continues to guide our path toward progress and unity. The National Education Policy has laid a strong foundation for a developed and prosperous nation by prioritizing education and skill development. NMIMS University, with its over 40 years legacy, is at the forefront, empowering youth with future-oriented education. Together, we contribute significantly to India’s growth story and a prosperous Viksit Bharat. My heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed guests for inspiring us today.”  

Hon’ble Vice-President Shri Dhankhar also added, “The concept of Viksit Bharat – a developed India – is not merely a goal but a sacred mission that calls upon every citizen and institution to contribute their utmost” Shri Dhankhar stated. He highlighted that higher education institutions are pivotal in this mission, serving as the “architects of tomorrow’s India” through the knowledge they impart, the skills they nurture, and the values they instil.

Guiding students to embrace the spirit of ‘Jai Anusandhan’, he added that “as emphasized by our Hon’ble Prime Minister, strive not just to be consumers of knowledge, but producers of new ideas and solutions. Engage in research, participate in hackathons, join innovation cells, and nurture your entrepreneurial spirit”.

Emphasising on the need to create solutions that are accessible, affordable, and sustainable, he said that “Viksit Bharat will not be built in air-conditioned offices alone. It will be built in the villages, in the urban slums, in the far-flung areas of our country. As you progress in your careers, always keep an ear to the ground. Understand the real challenges faced by your fellow citizens”.
