In a major stride towards sustainability, SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) University has partnered with SunInfra Energies to establish a 12.5 MWp open-access captive solar project — one of the largest of its kind in India. The initiative aims to significantly reduce the university’s carbon footprint while promoting cleaner and more efficient energy use across its campuses.
Driving Sustainability Across Maharashtra
The solar power project will cater to six NMIMS campuses located in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Dhule. It is designed to meet nearly 70 percent of their total energy consumption, generating approximately 1.75 crore units of electricity annually. This large-scale shift to renewable energy reinforces NMIMS’s ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability into its institutional operations and infrastructure.
A Model for Green Education and Innovation
By embracing solar power, SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies sets an example for educational institutions nationwide. The collaboration reflects the university’s vision of building an environmentally responsible academic ecosystem powered by innovation and technology. Beyond energy efficiency, this partnership also aligns with India’s broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions and fostering sustainable development in higher education.
Through this initiative, NMIMS not only reduces its dependency on conventional energy sources but also inspires students and institutions to adopt renewable solutions. It is a step toward a cleaner future, where education and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
