Mumbai, October 2026: The School of Liberal Arts at NMIMS observed Suicide Prevention Day with a day-long initiative focused on reflection, dialogue, awareness and remembrance. The initiative brought together students and faculty to engage in conversations around suicide and mental health, creating a supportive space for open and sensitive discussions.
The day began with an interactive seminar, “Changing the Narrative,” led by Ms. Vishwa Modi, Co-founder and Chief Psychologist, The Mood Space. The session explored suicide from psychological and societal perspectives, including the role of stigma, misconceptions and the challenges associated with speaking openly about emotional distress. Students actively participated in the discussion, shared their perspectives and reflected on the importance of compassionate and sensitive conversations around mental health.
The programme also featured interactive activity stalls, including “Invisible Ink” and “Things We Never Said.” The activities provided students with creative avenues to express thoughts, emotions and words that can often remain unspoken. The initiatives encouraged participants to pause, reflect and acknowledge experiences that may be difficult to articulate.
The day concluded with an open mic session featuring poetry, music and personal reflections by students and faculty. The session created an opportunity for participants to share their voices and experiences, highlighting the importance of connection, empathy and active listening within a community.
Through the initiative, the School of Liberal Arts encouraged greater awareness and openness around conversations on suicide and mental health, while creating space for reflection, expression and meaningful dialogue among students and faculty.
