NMIMS Shirpur on 10-11 June, 2016 organised an International Symposium on Knowledge and Communication (ISKCOM), jointly with Khon Kaen University, (Information and Communication Department, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.), Khon Kaen, Thailand. The theme of the conference was “Future Librarianship: Innovative, Embedded, Sustainable and Emerging Trends Knowledge and Communication” is need of revolutionary era and is very essential for the professionals from libraries, Knowledge Resource Centres and Information.
The main aim in organizing this conference was to develop a platform for information and IT professionals for sharing information using modern practices and bring together professionals to debate on future librarianship and needs. To fulfil this task communications were invited to share the views of national and international experts on the various sub themes which supports to manage future.
The two days symposium was attended by 400 delegates from india as well as countries like USA, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Thailand, Philippines, UAE.
Total 380 papers were received from across the world. Out of which 210 papers authored by 348 authors were selected for publications by organizing committee of Symposium and included in the proceeding volume having ISBN No 978-93-85664-16-8 edited by team of Editors Ravindra Mendhe, Dr. Kulthida Tuamsuk, Dr Kanyarat Kwiecien and Dr Shivanand Sadalapur.
Dr R S Gaud, Director, NMIMS Shirpur Campus in his welcome address, highlighted the brief account of academic and research contribution & association, and experience of NMIMS in higher education. He focused on activity of SVKM’s and its contribution in education area and attained status of deemed university with many educational branches at NMIMS campus.
Dr Poranee Sirichote delivered theme address and conveyed the message to all the participants regarding applications of ICT in LIS. She has also highlighted changing scenario in the profession and suggested to accept new trends in ICT to develop sustainable profession. She also narrated the activities carried out in her department of ICT at KK University.
Dr Debashis Sanyal, Pro-Vice Chancellor NMIMS, who was presiding over the ceremony, wholeheartedly praised library professionals quoting them as unsung heros in any success and contribution of academician. He compared library profession with Anaesthetist in medical profession who goes unnoticed most of the time. He also advocated relevance of all sub themes of the symposium in present era. He inspired library information professional to accept new trends and becomes information / knowledge providers and take pivotal role in new era to manage future.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of YCMOU, Nasik, Prof. Dr M. M. Salunkhe delivered his Chief Guest speech and congratulated NMIMS for hosting and managing this conference on the theme of knowledge and communication which is need of the time. He focused on paradigm shift in library profession from traditional to modern and compared traditional activities with advanced activities. He put priority for modernizing libraries using ICT applications.
Keynote address was delivered by Prof Dr V T Kamble, Professor, Dept of Lib & Info Science, Gulbarga University. In his speech he addressed participants to analyse the future needs in the profession and using ICT in libraries perform the leadership role. Librarians have to work in different roles to sustain the profession and delivering information to users through developing web pages and modern media.

Mr Theeradej Imauan of KK University Thailand shared his experiences of library profession at Thailand. Dr Nandkumar Dahibhate presented the conference report of the complete conference in the capacity of Rapporteur General. Dr D K Veer, delivered presidential address. Dr Mrs Sharmila Ghadage, Dr. Pawan Agrawal and Dr G Prabhakar represented as members from the participants to share their views on overall performance of conference in the form of feedback. Finally the symposium concluded with vote of thanks and Mr Ashok Giri Dy Registrar, NMIMS Shirpur, presented vote of thanks.
