MPSTME Alumni bags Dr. Kalpana Chawla International Scholarship

Ms. Aditi Nilvarna is a Mechanical Engineer (B.Tech.- Mechanical) from SVKM’s NMIMS’s Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering and she is the 1st girl from Mumbai & 4th girl from India to receive this year’s prestigious Dr. Kalpana Chawla International Scholarship at International Space University (ISU), Strasbourg, France for their flagship course- Space Studies Program 2019. She has received 16000 Euros- almost full scholarship, for her research work (Dr. Kalpana Chawla Scholarship Project) including her tuition fees is handled by ISU. Her recommendations for ISU, France came from respected NASA’s – STEM Educator- Ms. Leena Bokil & Dr. Tapan Bagchi (Former Director of NMIMS, Professional Engineer, Prof. at IIT KGP). She will be carrying forward the torch of India at International Space University and Dr. Kalpana Chawla’s Legacy. She has bagged the rarest opportunity to directly communicate with the world wide space agencies and its employees & astronauts. We believe, given her live telecast interview on India’s National News Channel- Doordarshan Sahyadri- that she has already started her journey by promoting Space awareness through her background story in which she proudly speaks for her undergraduate alma mater- NMIMS !
Space Engineering & Science sector has always grabbed Aditi’s attention and her interest in the Sci-Fi world of space exploration and aeronautics germinates right from childhood. She says, ”Taking after my parents’ and science textbooks’ claims, I began endorsing the belief that everything in outer space is justifiable. Eventually, as the days passed, my curiosity grew as I watched more documentaries on space, especially those of Stephen Hawking’s Blackhole theories, Machio Kaku’s space-time theory of consciousness, Albert Einstein & Eddington’s theory of relativity and my very idol Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian man and classical mechanics. Not only some of these documentaries resolved my basic question but also instigated a series of more complex questions”. Aditi’s motivation derived till this point and her intellectual capability gained during her education will help her do well in this demanding graduate program and push her to make valuable contributions to the ongoing real time researches at ISU, France.
With her mentors (Dr. Tapan Bagchi & Prof. Leena Bokil) and NMIMS University backing her up, she wishes to genuinely give back to her country and university by inspiring young space enthusiasts- youth of India. Her project on Human Research aims in contributing to the mankind and space technology worldwide. She says, ” I don’t aim solely to be working for space organisations, rather,  I aim to be working for space science itself, unitedly, and keep ultimate goals for contributing to the mankind, space technology and methods to relieve our Planet Earth from its miserable climate change conditions/global environmental perturbations”.
We, at NMIMS, are proud of her and wish her all the best for her future endeavours.
