NMIMS School of Design Students Shine in Prestigious Global Competitions

SVKM’s NMIMS Deemed to be University has added to its impressive multidisciplinary lineage of imparting outstanding learning experiences, the School of Design four years ago. The nucleus of the School is to impart future-scoped design education to prime the student to be a design professional in the fast, ever evolving world of design. To be a multidisciplinary designer with a humane touch and cultivate a technology mindset.
Our flagship offering – B. Des. in Humanising Technology, an AICTE approved, 4-year undergraduate program,  resolves the problem faced by young students to make a choice between their interest in art, science and technology by offering a seamless amalgam of the these streams. The program brings new focus on this aspect of ‘multidisciplinary’—the byword in the field of design. It enables crafting product/service experiences that are delighting wherein the technology is consumable and unseen, thus ‘humanised.’
Our students are truly contributing towards the vision and mission of the school by their innovative approaches to immersive and holistic design. Testimony to that are the recent laurels our students have brought to the school needs special mention. The School of Design have achieved more than 11 accolades in reputed international and national level competitions in recent times
The winning spree began with a win in the ADI International Students Design Competition- Battle of Projects PDF Pune bagging three awards in different categories by our third-year students, first prize in Packaging Design by Hitiksha Kanani, first prize in Industrial product design by Arushi Shukla, Shweta Mandwale and Damiya Jaswani And Special Mention in Mobility Design by Rahil Parmar and Rajarshi Dasgupta.
Furthermore, a team of third year students: Arushi Shukla, Shweta Mandwale and Damiya Jaswani of our B. Des. Humanising Technology program ranked First Runner’s Up and the Community Choice award at the international Core77 Design Awards 2020 under the Social Impact Category for their project, “Magnetic tiles/cement to aid the visually impaired”.
Our 2nd year students emerged victorious from a pool of over 2000 entries from 52 countries. D’source International Corona Design Challenge 2020 win two awards under Game Design category by Akshata Chitnis, Khushali Parekh, Nidhi Kastiya and Nikita Bhatnagar and 1 award under Communication Design category “Zyaada Hero Mat Ban” a campaign designed by Preshita Deshmukh.
A contingent of second year students Aarushi Mehra, Hetavi Shah, Palak Goyal, Samiksha Sachdeva was chosen as one of the Top 30 finalists from over 250+ entries in the International UMO Design Social Innovation Challenge 2020.
Students of the B. Des. Humanising Technology program performed exceptionally well in the national competitions as well. Second-year students Anuya Desai and Preshita Deshmukh emerged as the winning team at QED 2020, a competition held by Anant National University. Their sustainable fashion project titled, “Circular Fashion” urged consumers to use fashion and clothing for longer, instead of purchasing new clothing constantly. The project was chosen from 100+ entries from across India through three tough rounds of elimination. At the Connecting Dreams Foundation Social Impact Challenge, Team Fireflies from the School of Design became one of the Top 3 winners of the Social Impact Challenge (SIC) in the Dream awards 2020 event. Second year students Ameya Sawant, Shashank Venkatraman, Aaarushi Mehra and third year students Rajarshi Dasgupta and Rahil Parmar participated as a team. The team competed with 15 teams across 10+ renowned colleges in Mumbai to bring a change in the social enterprise industry of Maharashtra.
NMIMS School of Design takes immense pride in the accolades and achievements that students have earned during this pandemic period and taking giant strides towards the attainment of its vision. Even in these unprecedented times, students are utilizing their time effectively to create, innovate and contribute to society relayed Prof Manisha Phadke, founding director of the school. .
