Chandigarh, July 11, 2026: SVKM’s NMIMS Chandigarh formally welcomed the incoming batch of students of the School of Technology Management & Engineering (STME) through an inspiring Orientation Programme 2026, marking the beginning of an exciting academic journey for aspiring engineers. The week-long orientation, scheduled from 11 to 17 July 2026, has been thoughtfully designed to familiarize students with the University’s academic ecosystem, industry-oriented learning, institutional values, and vibrant campus life. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, parents, faculty members, and distinguished leaders from the corporate world.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the traditional Lamp Lighting Ceremony, Saraswati Vandana, and the NMIMS Anthem, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter in the students’ lives.
The event was gracefully anchored by Dr. Preetjot Kaur, Assistant Professor, School of Technology Management & Engineering, who warmly welcomed the distinguished guests, faculty members, parents, and the newly admitted students. Congratulating the students on becoming a part of the NMIMS Chandigarh family, she expressed gratitude to the parents for placing their trust in the institution and highlighted the University’s commitment to nurturing academic excellence, innovation, integrity, and the holistic development of every learner. She also coordinated the felicitation ceremony of the distinguished guests, setting an inspiring tone for the day’s proceedings.
The programme was graced by eminent industry leaders including Mr. Sandeep Malik, General Manager (Quality), HCL Technologies Limited, who attended as the Chief Guest; Mr. Jagjit Singh, Head – Data & Analytics (Public Services), Tata Consultancy Services, Gurugram; Mr. Nikhil Mangal, Deputy General Manager, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Panchkula; and Mr. Manpreet Singh, Product Head & Delivery, Fastway Transmissions Pvt. Ltd., Ludhiana. Their presence provided students with valuable opportunities to gain first-hand insights into the rapidly evolving technology landscape.

Welcoming the incoming batch, Prof. (Dr.) Jyotsna Singh, Campus Director, NMIMS Chandigarh, congratulated the students on successfully securing admission through the competitive NMIMS entrance process and welcomed them into the NMIMS family. She highlighted NMIMS’ remarkable legacy that began in 1981 and has grown into one of India’s leading multidisciplinary universities with campuses across the country.
Emphasizing that education at NMIMS extends far beyond classroom learning, she introduced students to the University’s unique Out of Class Academic Collaboration (OCAC) framework, which enables experiential learning through projects, teamwork, leadership opportunities, innovation, and problem-solving. She encouraged students to remain disciplined, punctual, curious, and consistent while embracing emerging technologies and cultivating a lifelong learning mindset.
Sharing a significant institutional milestone, Prof. (Dr.) Jyotsna Singh proudly announced that the first graduating batch of engineering students at NMIMS Chandigarh achieved 100% placements, with several students securing multiple offers from leading organizations, reflecting the institution’s strong academic foundation and industry connect. She urged students to actively participate in student clubs, innovation initiatives, and experiential learning opportunities to become not only competent engineers but also responsible leaders and professionals. She remarked, “At NMIMS Chandigarh, education goes far beyond classrooms. We nurture curious minds, responsible professionals, and future-ready engineers through academic excellence, experiential learning, and meaningful industry engagement. I encourage every student to remain consistent, embrace change, participate actively, and make the most of every opportunity over the next four years. My hope is that when you graduate, you leave not only with a degree but with confidence, integrity, humility, and a strong sense of purpose.”
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sandeep Malik, General Manager (Quality), HCL Technologies Limited, encouraged students to make the most of their four-year engineering journey by cultivating curiosity, building meaningful professional networks, and embracing failures as stepping stones to success. He emphasized that while technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Advanced Computing, and Clean Energy continue to evolve rapidly, the ability to solve problems, think critically, and adapt continuously will remain the defining qualities of successful engineers. He said, “You are entering one of the most exciting eras in technology. Stay curious, build strong relationships, and never be afraid of failure because every experiment brings you closer to success. Technology will continue to evolve, but your ability to solve problems, learn continuously, and work collaboratively will define your success as future engineers and innovators.”
Delivering an insightful keynote address, Mr. Jagjit Singh, Head – Data & Analytics (Public Services), Tata Consultancy Services, Gurugram, encouraged students to build strong fundamentals in programming, data structures, and system design while staying updated with emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Cyber Security, and Edge Computing. Emphasizing that data is the fuel of AI and cyber security its backbone, he urged students to embrace continuous learning, strengthen communication skills, and view failures as opportunities for growth while leveraging technology to solve real-world challenges. He stated, “Strong fundamentals, continuous learning, and adaptability will always remain the foundation of a successful career. Embrace failures, stay curious, and use technology responsibly to create meaningful impact.”
Delivering a keynote address, Mr. Nikhil Mangal, Deputy General Manager, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Robotics, Data Science, and Defence Technologies in shaping the future. He encouraged students to become lifelong learners, uphold ethical values, and contribute meaningfully towards building indigenous technologies aligned with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. He emphasized that innovation must always be complemented by integrity and a strong sense of national responsibility.
Sharing valuable industry perspectives, Mr. Manpreet Singh, Product Head & Delivery, Fastway Transmissions Pvt. Ltd., spoke about the digital transformation taking place across industries and the increasing influence of Artificial Intelligence in communication, business, entertainment, and technology. He encouraged students to embrace AI responsibly, continuously upgrade their skills, strengthen communication and problem-solving abilities, and prepare themselves for careers driven by innovation and lifelong learning.
As part of the orientation programme, Mr. Abhinav Kaushik, Deputy Registrar, NMIMS Chandigarh, conducted an informative session on the Student Resource Book (SRB). He familiarized the students with the University’s academic regulations, attendance requirements, examination policies, student support systems, code of conduct, campus facilities, digital platforms, and administrative processes. The session equipped the incoming students with a comprehensive understanding of the institutional framework and the resources available to help them successfully navigate their academic journey.
The orientation week will continue with a series of carefully curated academic and experiential sessions, including campus familiarization, bridge courses, expert lectures by industry leaders, yoga and wellness sessions, professional ethics, critical thinking, student club interactions, community service orientation, and curriculum familiarization, ensuring a smooth and enriching transition into university life.
