Joining the event virtually, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ramesh Bhat, along with Pro Vice-Chancellors Dr. Sharad Mhaiskar and Dr. Meena Chintamaneni, extended their warm wishes and appreciation for the conference, The inaugural day witnessed the convergence of academicians, researchers, and industry experts from across the country and abroad, aiming to explore innovations in sustainable development through technology. Dr Sunita R Patil,  Director of Shirpur campus and Chairperson of the conference briefed the conference and set the tone for the event.  

The Chief Guest of the conference, Dr. Deepak Talwar, Chief AI & Cyber Security Officer at Asteria Visions, Singapore, delivered the keynote address on the theme “AI and Human Symbiosis for a Fair and Empowering Technological Future.”  He spoke on the essential theme of “AI and Human Symbiosis for a Fair and Empowering Technological Future.” Further sessions included Dr. Ashok Kadlag, Principal Scientist, Head of crop production & crop protection, Vasantdada Sugar Institute, Pune spoke on “Challenges and Opportunities in Sugarcane Farming”.  He addressed critical issues such as climate change, water scarcity, pest infestations, and fluctuating market conditions, all of which affect the productivity and sustainability of sugarcane farming. 

Post-lunch, Dr. Javed Shaikh, Professor, IIT Delhi delivered an engaging talk on “Sustainable Development of Protective Textiles using Functional Dyes and Auxiliaries”. His presentation focused on the development of advanced protective textiles that combine environmental sustainability with multifunctional performance. 

A major highlight of the day was the Oral and Poster Presentations, where over 100 researchers showcased their work across various interdisciplinary tracks in healthcare, Agricultural, Textiles, Education, Engineering & Technology. The oral and poster presentations were evaluated by senior academicians from reputed University and institutions across India and globe. The event reflected the vibrant academic spirit of NMIMS Shirpur, bringing together knowledge, innovation, and collaboration on one platform. An international delegation from acclaimed universities across the United States of America graced the CIBER FDIB India 2025 programme to share their perspectives and insights on the pharmaceutical and healthcare business environment in India. The delegation was led by Dr. Sumit Kundu, the James K. Batten Eminent Scholar Chair in International Business, Associate Dean for CIBER and International Affairs, Director of CIBER, and Professor in the Department of International Business at Florida International University, and included eminent academics and faculty members from esteemed universities namely Sung K. Ahn from Washington State University; Louis Ngamassi from Prairie View A&M University; Milagros Sanoja from Miami Dade College; Kevin J. Jones from Indiana University; Andrea Foster from Montgomery College; Akash Dania from Delaware State University; Tory Kinson from The University of Tennessee; Jonathon Wood from Brigham Young University; Marki Jones from the University of South Carolina; Monica Kinson, an expert in the field of accounting; Emil Milevoj from California State University; Jillian Avendano, CIBER Program Director and Jacob Searcy from Santa Fe College.

The programme featured insightful and engaging discussions regarding the business environment in India. It started with the welcome remarks and opening address by Dr Ramesh Bhat, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS who talked about the history of NMIMS and touched upon the various programmes that were introduced across the campuses.

The programme included a thought-provoking discussion led by Mr Yugal Sikri, Managing Director, RPG Lifesciences regarding the theme “Indian Pharmaceutical Industry: Challenges and Prospects”. He provided valuable insights into the growing challenges in the Indian healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors as well as the prospects for growth, innovation and technological advancements in these sectors.

The focus of the programme shifted to the theme “Indian Healthcare Industry: Challenges and Prospects.” This session was led by Mr Bimal Desai, Country Head and Director at SheepMedical, who is an expert in forging successful strategic alliances, joint ventures, strategic business expansion and has successfully built start-ups

In his address, Mr Bimal Desai highlighted the rapid advancements in healthcare technologies while discussing the potential for growth. He remarked, “India is now becoming a start-up hub. Just in healthcare, you have more than seven thousand start-ups. When you look at an inherent need for this product, you have a captive consumer base in the country itself, if rightly priced.”

The CIBER PDIF programme also featured a panel discussion on the Financial Services Industry, with panellists being drawn from NMIMS’s illustrious alumni network.The Panel Discussion was moderated by Dr. Veena Vohra- Professor and Vice Dean (Accreditation, Ranking, Industry and Alumni) and participants included Vice President of Equity Research at Edelweiss Financial; Francis Rodrigues, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience at Kotak Mahindra Bank, as well as Jivan Dhakate, Vice President at Axis Bank.

The objective of the Shodh Yatra was to record the traditional practices of the tribal area and analyze them based on scientific knowledge and methods. The group of Young Professionals under the leadership of Shirpur Campus faculty, Mr. Saurabh Maru, Assistant Prof. SPTM, Shirpur, visited the remotest villages of Madhya Pradesh, interacted with tribal people to understand their issues and facilitated them with various government schemes for Tribal communities in education, medical sector, etc. and recorded many tribal traditions which are unique and have high transforming impact on civilization like Van Bhaji, Dhas, Basak, etc.

Under the Shodh Yatra-2024 initiative, starting from Magarpati to Kotbandhani of Pati Block, Barwani District, Madhya Pradesh, covered the villages like Magarpatti, Anjrada, Osada, Budi, Semli, Bamnali, Limbi, Gudi, Harla, Rosar, Umriyapani, Golgao, Kherwani, Jiwani, Semlet, and Kotbandhani and arranged various activities across tribal villages like,

1. Medical camps, identification of sickle cell patients and treatment
2. Van Bhaji Utsav  to record traditional practices of using forest vegetables,
3. Dhas to repair and construct water bodies with the help of community,
4. Motivational sessions with school students,
5. Literacy and government policies-related awareness sessions.

Over the years, the initiative has transformed healthcare in the tribal area as the locally residing students have become the heads of the Primary Health Centres (PHCs). PHCs are well connected with the local residents and thus are available for treatment and in a sympathetic manner. The scientific documentation of the Van Bhaji is going on, and people are made aware of it; currently in Alirajpur, we have recorded the demand for Van Bhaji at a good rate.

At every village where Shodh Yatra visited, a medical camp was conducted, and screening for sickle cell disease, skin diseases, leprosy, TB, etc. was conducted. A total of 12 medical camps were conducted, covering people from 17 villages during these 7 days. The Shodh Yatra recorded sickle cell disease prevalence in 17 villages of Pati block, Barwani, M.P., and 800 tribals were screened for sickle cell anaemia, in which 117 people were found positive. Mr. Saurabh Maru interacted with 600 students and conducted 8 motivational and career guidance sessions in the schools of these villages. A total of 5,000 people interacted with the Shodh Yatra. Many plants were recorded with high medicinal and nutritious food value in the villages. Plantations of Banyan and Sacred fig plants were done in villages. Two water bodies were constructed through the tribal tradition of “Dhas“.

Shodh-Yatra-2024 was concluded on 31st December 2024 at Kotbandhani by praying the tribute to the river Narmada. 

This year, Madhya Pradesh Rajyapal, Shri. Manubhai C. Patel, the Member of Parliament, Barwani-Khargone constituency; Barwani District Collector, Dr. Rahul Fating, the Superintendent of Police; MLAs around the Pati Block, CMHO and DHO, Barwani, have taken an interest in this young professional-led initiative, and they wholeheartedly supported this unique initiative. 

Our faculty, Mr. Saurabh Maru, Assistant Professor, SPTM, has been putting efforts into organizing Shodh Yatra since the year 2016 for this social cause, uplifting the livelihood of the tribal community.”

Day 1: Monday, 21 October 2024

The first day focused on reviewing the progress of the Open ASIA project, along with updates from the involved organizations. Key discussions covered:

• Project Management: Ms. Meena Saxena who leads this package (WP1) provided an overview of WP related to the Project website, Institutional websites and  Project brand book.
• Open Science Curriculum: Examination of both formal and informal curriculum developments discussion was led by Dr. Nada Trunk and Dr. Valerij Dermol, Professor at ISSBS. Discussions focussed on credit bearing & certificate courses timelines, course content, no of credits, challenges of introducing the formal courses by fall 2025 and more.
• Regulatory Framework: Dr. Maninder Singh Professor and Dean of Academic affairs Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology provided Insight into the evolving regulations that will support Open Science in participating regions. Each of the partner countries shared the challenges in their respective countries
• Communication and Dissemination Strategy: Professor Shaliza Ibrahim Universiti Malaya (UM) Associate Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) led the discussion on current efforts by the partners to increase visibility and engagement with Open Science initiatives. Ms Meena Saxena shared the efforts made by NMIMS towards promoting the project nationally and within the university. Dr. Olesea clearly spelt out the expectations from the partners.

Day 2: Tuesday, 22 October 2024

The second day Project Co- Coordinator Dr. Olesea Sirbu addressed the project’s financial and quality metrics, ensuring strong outcomes and sustainable impact. Key topics included:

• Financial Management: Detailed presentation on budgeting and resource allocation.
• Quality Control and Quality Assurance: Measures to maintain high standards in project outputs.
• Exploitation and Multiplier Activities: Strategies to maximize project reach and applicability.
• Sustainability and Impact Maximization: Plans for extending the project’s influence beyond its initial scope to foster long-term benefits for higher education institutions in India and Malaysia.

Dr. Sadlapur, Head Dept. of Library & Information Science virtually presented an overview of the Proposed NMIMS International Conference on Open Science in May 2025 with the objective of getting support from the project partners toward expert speakers and submission of research papers.

Universiti Malaya organised a Cultural Visit to the Museum of Asian Art, located on the main campus. The museum aims to foster an appreciation of Asian art among Malaysia’s diverse communities and houses nearly 7,000 artifacts representing cultures from across Asia, spanning 4,000 years of history. In its 1,500-square-foot gallery space, the museum showcases the artistic, cultural, and intellectual heritage of Asia, including Chinese pottery, Hindu sculptures, textiles from the Malaya archipelago, and sacred masks from the Orang Asli communities.

Additionally, Universiti Malaya organized a Visit to Art Exhibition titled “Visionary Journeys Art Exhibition,” running from 14 October to 14 November 2024. The exhibition, a collaborative effort between the University of Malaya Art Gallery (UMAG), Hear2Art exhibitors, and the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB), raises funds to support MAB. The exhibition features various art genres, including vibrant floral scenes, landscapes, abstract works, and intricate bird-themed artworks, some of which were created by visually impaired students.

The meeting marked an important step in fortifying Open Science practices in the region, fostering collaborations that aim for sustained academic and research excellence.

Mumbai, 23rd September 2024: The esteemed NMIMS University Mumbai hosted a ground-breaking event, ‘Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat’ at its sprawling Mumbai campus. This momentous event, graced by the Hon’ble Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, as Chief Guest, brought together young women achievers from NMIMS, renowned YouTube influencers and animated students for an inspiring session on Yuva Shakti, Green Initiative, Climate Change and India’s vision for the future.

The dynamic event was attended by NMIMS’ enthusiastic students, esteemed women achievers, and popular disruptive social media influencers who have manifested social change, among many others.

The event commenced with a tree plantation ceremony by the Hon’ble Minister and the ten women achievers under the banner of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’. Dr Ramesh Bhat, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, NMIMS University, welcomed the Hon’ble Minister and other dignitaries.

In an engaging keynote address to the students, Hon’ble Shri Bhupender Yadav enthusiastically spoke about youth power and its importance in Prime Minister Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India).  The inspiring Shri Bhupender Yadav said, “The youth of India is dynamic and determined, and India’s path to becoming a Global Leader rest upon their shoulders. Highlighting the impact and importance of this event, Shri Yadav also emphasised, “It is time for the youthto champion change in sustainable development, and that can spearhead key steps toward a truly developed India. The youth should initiate more tree plantations like the ones undertaken today at NMIMS, along with clean energy drives, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with the local communities.

NMIMS Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering (MPSTME) has entered into a significant partnership with Oakland University, USA, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 13th August 2024 to nurture collaboration in various academic and research areas.

The MoU signing ceremony commenced with an address by Dr. Anne Koteswararao, Dean of MPSTME, highlighting this collaboration’s practical benefits: “Our focus is on creating real opportunities for MBA Tech students, especially in fields like AI, data science, and computing engineering. This partnership will enable joint research, faculty exchanges, and more, ensuring our students gain valuable experience. However, the success of this MOU lies in its outcomes. Without tangible results, it remains just a piece of paper. We’re committed to making this collaboration meaningful and beneficial for our students.”

This strategic agreement between NMIMS MPSTME and Oakland University opens doors for extensive cooperation in various academic and research domains. The institutions have committed to facilitating student exchanges at both undergraduate and graduate levels, allowing students to benefit from international academic experiences. Faculty exchanges will also be encouraged, providing opportunities for teaching and collaborative research across both campuses. MoU promotes global transfer programs, dual degrees, joint research initiatives, and resource pooling for external funding.

The MoU also includes provisions for organizing joint conferences, workshops, and seminars, allowing students and faculty to share knowledge and research findings with their peers. One of the standout features of the collaboration is the capstone class, a semester-long, industry-sponsored project that offers students hands-on experience through real-world projects. Students will have the chance to spend one day a week on-site, working closely with industry professionals, which can lead to internships, Optional Practical Training (OPT) in the USA, and 100% job placements in Automotive, Healthcare, Financial, Accounting, and IT firms.

One of the key advantages highlighted about this partnership is the cost-effectiveness of the academic programs. The MS in Business Analytics (MSBA) and MS in Information & Technology Management (MSITM) programs, which are STEM-coded, can be completed in as little as 1 to 1.5 years, depending on the student’s prior education. Students will benefit from in-state tuition rates thanks to scholarships covering the difference between out-of-state and in-state tuition.

The capacity building workshop 2 (CBW2) focused on “Public Engagement via Science Shop and Community Service Learning” was organized as a part of the OPEN-ASIA project co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. The participating organizations included SVKM’s NMIMS (India), University of Malaya (Malaysia), University Malaysia Sabah (Malaysia), University Malaysia Sarawak (Malaysia), International School for Social and Business Studies (Slovenia) and institutions from Botswana and Zambia from OSCAR 2.0 project.

The five-day workshop focused on major theme of enhancing public engagement in science including science shops, community service learning, citizen science and knowledge equity. The quality of discussions was enhanced by participation of African institutions under OSCAR 2.0 institutions as it helped understand the open science initiatives and progress in Africa.

1^st day kick-started by welcome address by Dr. Jacqueline Broerse (Drector, Athena Institute, VU) and Dr. Marjolein Zweekhorst followed by brief presentations from participating institutions. Dr. Joshipura made presentation on NMIMS University and highlighted the University’s contributions toward open science focusing on WeCare (Community Service Learning), Ground water recharge project in Shirpur (Shirpur Pattern), open science knowledge shared by NMIMS in form of downloadable books and open access journal. The 2^nd half focused on the Science Shop presentation by VU and workshop on science shop to build institutional vision and implementation of science shop at participating institutions.

2nd day started with presentation on Science Shop by VU followed by presentations from participating institutions and to learn from best practices from other institutions. The 2nd half included presentations from European Universities on International learning lab, sharing their experiences on public engagement through community service learning including. Karsten Altenschmidt,(UNIKTIV, Germany),  Geertje Tijsma (VU, Netherlands), Nataša Matulayová (UPOL, Czech Republic), Avril Lombardi Bolaño & Janaina de Oliveir (URV, Spain).

3^rd day focused on role of libraries in open science with presentation by VU library and the 2^nd half the participants visited public library to participate in “Science with Society Festival” fousing on conversations between citizens, students, scientists, community partners and policy makers. Dr. Joshipura participated in “energy transition’ whereas Dr. Bondili participated in “mental health” conversations.

4th day was dedicated to Knowledge Equity Symposium with presentations by experts and series of panel discussion on Knowledge Equity in Education and research. It started with informal welcome by Marjolein Zweekhorst and Sander Bosch followed by formal welcome speech by Miranda van Holland (VU). Dr. Cees Hamelink, Professor Emirates (VU) delivered keynote address on Knowledge equity. Dr Pius Mosima (Cameroon) , Sandra Hasanefendic (VU), Natasa Matulayova (Czechia), Dr Clement Dr Niyerenda (South Africa) shared their experiences on  knowledge equity and research followed by short presentations by Victor de Boer (VU), Amrita Das (VU), Michele Meijer (VU), Prof Maurice Crul (VU). Dr. Masood (Leeds) presented Knowledge Equity network followed by panel discussion on Role of Libraries in Koowledge Equity including Hilde van Wijngaarden (VU), Masud Kokhar (Leeds), Shirlene Neerputh (UWC) as panellists.   Dr. Bondili participated as a panelist one of the panel discussions on Knowledge Equity along with participants from three other participants from OSCAR 2.0 and Open Asia project institutions.

5^th day started with institutional science shop plans. Dr. Joshipura and Dr. Bondili presented plan to build upon Wecare (community service engagement) and make it interdisciplinary, focusing on transdisciplinary approach to research focusing on transdisciplinary research units/clusters focusing on issues facing business, society and environment. The 2^nd half was about students’ poster presentations on science shop projects.

Beside the workshop, VU arranged for a forest walk (17^th evening), boat city tour (19^th evening) and interactive play at public library (20^th afternoon) which offered networking opportunity and informal interactions.

Overall, the five-day workshop focused on open engagement of social actors through initiatives such as science shops, community service learning, knowledge equity and role of libraries. We established connections with participating institutions from Open Asia, OSCAR 2.0 and speakers from European region. These connections will help us setting up data management plan and data repository, exchanging best practices in community service learning and open science, offering interdisciplinary course linked to community service learning with the help of VU in select schools such as School of Science, attracting international Ph.D. students and fostering research collaborations. Dr. Mayank Joshipura and Dr. Jayakumar have already joined Knowledge Equity Network in their individual capacity and identifying research units for cluster-based research and incorporating data management plan for faculty and doctoral scholars is initiated and it is included in University Ethics code as well as Ph.D. programme course work in subject titled “Research and Publication Ethics”.

Distinguished representatives from renowned academic institutions, including Queen Mary University of London, Arizona State University in the USA, Australian National University in Australia, University of Nottingham in the UK, IE Business School in Spain, Johns Hopkins Carey Business School in USA, University of Edinburgh in the UK, Western University in Canada, EDHEC Business School in France, and Domus Academy Milano in Italy. The fair was aimed at students from class VIII to postgraduates seeking flourishing academic and career opportunities abroad. Student attendees at the event received detailed information about the various undergraduate and postgraduate programs offered by these universities. The event covered a wide range of streams, including Engineering, Sciences, Pharmacy, Architecture, Commerce, Management, Economics, Marketing, Research, Liberal Arts, and Law among others, and the various programs provided by these universities.

The counselling sessions held at the fair were very helpful in clarifying the admission process for students. They provided valuable information about the different scholarships available to them and how to apply for them. The session also included tips on how to prepare for entrance tests.

The study abroad fair proved to be an excellent platform for the 600+ students from diverse academic backgrounds at the fair to connect with delegates and subject matter experts from across the globe and explore promising career opportunities in their fields. It was in line with NMIMS’ objective to become a global centre of excellence and provide its students with opportunities to study at the best foreign universities.

The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Ramesh Bhatt, Vice Chancellor NMIMS Deemed-to-be University, and Dr. Ali Irani, HOD Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, Nanavati Max Hospital and Chairperson, International Affairs, Indian Association of Physiotherapists. The camp also saw the presence of dignitaries from NMIMS University, including Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Meena Chintamaneni, Member of the Managing Board, Shri Shalin S Divatia and I/C Dean, Associate Professor  & HOD, Biological Sciences, Sunandan Divatia School of Science, Dr. Purvi Bhatt.

World Physiotherapy Day is celebrated on 8th September across the world to raise awareness about treatments through physiotherapy and honoring the vital services provided by physiotherapists for restoring people’s physical health.

The day kicked off with an Arthritis Awareness Quiz tailored for students. This quiz was designed to challenge their knowledge of different types of arthritis and their clinical symptoms. It provided students with an opportunity to apply their theoretical understanding to real-world scenarios. Their active participation showcased a commitment to increasing awareness about this widespread condition.

A highlight of the day was the guest lecture delivered by Mumbai-based renowned arthroscopy surgeon, Dr. Nagraj Shetty. Dr. Shetty, celebrated for his expertise in orthopedic care, delivered an informative lecture on the crucial role of soft tissues in preventing knee arthritis. He spoke about preventive measures, treatment options, and the latest advancements in soft tissue management. The lecture not only educated but left a lasting impact on the audience, broadening their horizons about the essential role played by soft tissues in preventing arthritis.

Over two days, an extensive fitness analysis camp was held, with an impressive turnout of around 80 participants, including faculty and staff members of NMIMS University. The camp aimed to evaluate the different aspects of fitness like balance, strength, cardiovascular endurance, and flexibility by using clinical tests and measurements.

Master’s students in physiotherapy meticulously managed the various fitness stations that were arranged to ensure that each participant received a thorough assessment. After completing the assessments, participants were given detailed explanations of their results. These personalized insights highlighted their strengths and areas for improvement as well as tailored exercises and lifestyle modifications to improve their fitness.

The celebration of World Physiotherapy Day 2023 at NMIMS University successfully raised awareness about arthritis and provided valuable insights from a leading expert. It also inspired participants to prioritize their health through fitness assessment and guidance. The eye-opening event highlighted the NMIMS’ Department of Physiotherapy’s relentless commitment to promoting a culture of wellness and health consciousness among its students, faculty, and staff.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Purvi Bhatt said, “We greatly appreciate the exceptional efforts of our physiotherapy department in promoting physical well-being. This two-day camp has been instrumental in educating the public about arthritis symptoms, prevention, and treatment. At NMIMS, our ongoing commitment is to raise awareness about critical health issues.”
